If rocket propellants can be made on Mars then huge savings can be made in vehicle size for return missions. This UKSA funded programme studied the combustion performance of various propellants that could be made in-situ on Mars, and studied the performance of the injection system. Propellants included oxygen, carbon monoxide and methane.
